ThriveCart vs SamCart: What Each One Really Costs Once You Add the Features You Need

Introduction

Last updated: August 6, 2026

Almost every ThriveCart vs SamCart comparison prices $495 once against $79 a month. Those two numbers buy very different things.

SamCart’s Core plan has no order bumps and no upsells, which is the whole reason to buy a dedicated cart in the first place.

Both platforms also changed their plans inside the past year, so most published comparisons are pricing tiers that no longer exist.

What follows prices the two carts feature for feature, using figures checked against both platforms’ own pages in July 2026.

  • Why the Sticker Prices Don’t Match: The cheap SamCart plan is missing the two features most sellers buy a cart for, so the headline comparison is not a comparison.
  • What Pro+ Costs Every Year: The affiliate, tax and failed-payment tools left the one-time license in 2025 and now renew annually.
  • How to Compare Two Carts Fairly: The only way to compare two checkout platforms honestly, and why plan grids mislead.
  • Three-Year Totals, Side by Side: What each platform actually costs over three years once the features you need are switched on.

ThriveCart vs SamCart: The Short Answer on Cost

ThriveCart vs SamCart: The Short Answer on Cost

One license against a monthly bill — the answer changes once the feature lists are matched.

ThriveCart costs $495 once for its Standard license, with an optional Pro+ layer at $295 a year. SamCart runs $79 a month for Core or $199 for Pro, with 25% off annual billing.

Matched on features, ThriveCart is cheaper in every scenario below. The margin is far wider than the headline numbers suggest.

Neither platform takes a cut of sales. ThriveCart advertises 0% fees on sales, and SamCart adds no platform fee on its own processor.

How These Two Carts Were Compared

No hands-on account testing sits behind this post. The comparison is built from each platform’s own published plan and feature pages, read in July 2026.

That matters more than usual here, because both vendors reshuffled their plans recently.

SamCart retired its old Launch, Grow and Scale tiers, and ThriveCart moved several features off the one-time license.

So plan names get taken from the live pricing pages only, never from older reviews. The method itself is simple.

Pick a set of features a working seller needs, find the cheapest tier on each platform that covers all of them, then total the cost over one, three and five years.

Payment processing sits outside the comparison, since Stripe and PayPal charge their own rates on either platform. Email tools sit outside it too, and the newsletter platform comparison covers that call.

Course hosting add-ons get noted but not priced. Most readers here sell templates, guides or a single course rather than a full catalog.

Work Out Your Own Number First

The right answer depends on which features you switch on, because both platforms gate the useful ones behind a second tier.

What ThriveCart Standard Covers for $495

What ThriveCart Standard Covers for $495

The one-time license covers the selling tools; the admin and partner tools moved to a yearly add-on.

The $495 license is genuinely one-time on Standard. It buys checkout pages, order bumps, 1-click upsells, subscriptions and basic course delivery through ThriveCart Learn.

It also connects straight to your own Stripe and PayPal accounts. Delivery still runs through whatever automation you already use, which the automation tool comparison covers.

Read that list against SamCart's and the gap becomes obvious. Bumps and upsells ship inside ThriveCart Standard, and sit one tier up on SamCart.

Where the Lifetime License Stops

Six things are not in the license.

ThriveCart's helpdesk lists them under Pro+ features: the affiliate center, JV contracts, built-in sales tax calculation, dunning and subscription saver, custom checkout domains and multi-user access.

Pro+ is $295 a year. ThriveCart's own pricing panel puts year one at $790, then $295 annually after that.

That layer used to be a one-time $195 upgrade. It is now a subscription, which means the phrase "lifetime deal" only holds true on Standard.

Worth knowing before you buy: affiliate tracking only works on sales that run through a ThriveCart checkout.

What SamCart Core Covers for $79 a Month

What SamCart Core Covers for $79 a Month

Core sells and delivers products, but the conversion tools that justify a dedicated cart start on Pro.

Core covers unlimited pages, products and checkouts, plus the Courses App, cart abandonment recovery, one team seat and SamCart's AI assistant.

There is no added platform fee when you use SamPay, SamCart's own processor, which runs at 2.9% + 30¢.

Set Core beside ThriveCart Standard and the difference is capability, not price. No order bumps, no upsells, no A/B testing, and no third-party processors.

That last one catches people out. Connecting your own Stripe account requires the tier above.

Why Pro Is the Real Entry Point

Pro at $199 a month adds order bumps, 1-click upsells, A/B testing, Subscription Saver, the Affiliate Center and ten team seats.

Annual billing brings that to $149 a month, or $1,791 a year. SamCart argues the jump pays for itself.

Its pricing page credits one upsell with a 68% lift in average order value and order bumps with 31%, both vendor figures rather than independent ones.

Take those numbers at face value and Pro still has to clear $1,080 more per year than Core.

That is the real question in front of a solo seller, not whether bumps work.

Here is the comparison the headline prices hide. A cart with order bumps, upsells and your own Stripe account costs $495 once on ThriveCart Standard.

The same feature set on SamCart means Pro: $1,791 a year on annual billing, or $2,388 paying monthly.

ThriveCart's license is covered by roughly 3.3 months of SamCart Pro at the annual rate. Under three months if you pay monthly.

Across three years that is $495 against $5,373.

SamCart co-founder Brian Moran calls every business a "math equation" of average order value and lifetime value.

Apply that framing to the software line itself and the cart decision stops being about brand.

Add an affiliate program and failed-payment recovery and both platforms push you up a tier. The prices for doing so are not close.

ThriveCart wants Standard plus Pro+: about $790 in year one, then $295 a year.

SamCart covers both inside Pro at $1,791 a year.

Three years in, that is $1,380 against $5,373. The subscription costs roughly four times as much for the same two jobs.

One difference is worth pricing separately. SamCart bills tax collection on top of the plan.

That runs 50 basis points on Core and 35 on Pro.

ThriveCart bundles tax calculation into the Pro+ fee instead.

The Cost If You Sell One Product and Nothing Else

The Cost If You Sell One Product and Nothing Else

A single checkout with no extras is the one case where the familiar comparison roughly holds.

Strip everything back to one product and a plain checkout, and the numbers tighten considerably.

ThriveCart Standard still costs $495 once. SamCart Core costs $711 a year on annual billing, or $948 monthly.

The license pays for itself in month nine against annual billing, or month seven paying month to month.

This is the only scenario where the usual "$495 versus $79" framing is roughly fair.

It is also where SamCart is weakest as a cart. Most sellers outgrow that setup fast.

Where SamCart Earns Its Subscription

Where SamCart Earns Its Subscription

Monthly billing buys an exit — which is worth real money before a product has proven itself.

Cheaper over three years is not the same as better for everyone. SamCart wins on three specific things.

  • Nothing down. A 7-day free trial and monthly billing beat a $495 outlay when the product is unproven.
  • Team access. Pro includes ten seats, where ThriveCart routes multi-user permissions through Pro+.
  • Payments handled for you. SamPay works without connecting your own processor, and adds no platform fee on top.

There is a fourth, harder to price. Paying monthly means you can stop.

Anyone genuinely unsure whether they will still be selling in a year should not buy a license. The subscription is the cheaper mistake.

Which One Fits Your Setup

Which One Fits Your Setup

Three common starting points, each pointing at a specific tier rather than a favorite platform.

Seat counts and editor polish only matter once the tier matches what you sell. Three situations cover most readers here.

No product live yet. SamCart Core at $79 a month risks least, because nothing is locked up before the first sale.

One product selling steadily, no affiliates. This is where the two platforms split hardest. ThriveCart Standard's $495 is ahead of Core inside the first year either way.

Running affiliates or subscriptions. Both need their upper tier, so compare $295 a year against $1,791 and let the totals decide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Happens if ThriveCart Pro+ Pricing Changes After You Buy Standard?

$295 a year is the current renewal rate, and nothing locks it there.

Your Standard license stays fixed at $495 once. Pro+ is a separate annual subscription sitting on top of it.

That layer has already been repriced once, when the old one-time $195 Pro upgrade became a yearly fee.

Budget for the renewal and reassess it annually.

Can You Move From SamCart Core to Pro Later?

Yes.

SamCart sells Core and Pro as plans on the same account, so upgrading is a plan change rather than a new contract.

Switching between monthly and annual billing is also available, and annual saves 25%.

Check the exact proration on your own billing screen before upgrading mid-cycle. The amounts depend on where you are in the period.

Do Either of These Platforms Take a Cut of Your Sales?

No. Neither adds a percentage on top of your sales.

ThriveCart advertises 0% fees on sales, and SamCart charges no added platform fee on SamPay.

You still pay the processor.

SamPay is listed at 2.9% + 30¢. Stripe and PayPal charge their own published rates on either platform.

Tax collection is the exception on SamCart, billed at 50 basis points on Core and 35 on Pro.

Is ThriveCart's $495 License Transferable if You Sell Your Business?

The license is tied to an account, and the published terms do not cover business-sale transfers. Treat that as an open question.

Ask ThriveCart support directly and get the answer in writing before any sale closes. If you are building to sell, settle it early.

What Do You Lose if You Drop From SamCart Pro Back to Core?

Everything on the Pro list stops being available to build with. That means order bumps, 1-click upsells, A/B testing, Subscription Saver and the Affiliate Center.

Third-party processor access sits on Pro too, so a downgrade affects how payments run.

Confirm the exact timing with SamCart support before dropping tiers mid-launch. A live funnel is the wrong place to discover the answer.

Conclusion

The honest verdict is arithmetic, not brand preference.

On matched features ThriveCart costs less in every scenario priced here, and the gap widens with every year you keep selling.

The exception is real though. If a first sale has not happened yet, monthly billing is the cheaper way to be wrong.

Do this next. List the features you will switch on this year.

Then price only those on both platforms, using the calculator above.

Both vendors changed their plans this year, so confirm the final number at checkout.
