How We Review Products and Create Content
Home Hustle Hub exists to help people with day jobs build something meaningful on the side — without wasting money on gear that doesn’t deliver or strategies that don’t work. This page explains exactly how we research, evaluate, and recommend products and strategies on this site.
Our Two Content Types
We publish two distinct types of content, and we hold each to a different standard:
Workspace Gear I Use Daily
Some products featured on this site are part of my personal workspace. My standing desk, monitor arms, keyboard, chair, and core productivity tools have been used daily over extended periods — weeks and months, not hours. When I write about these, I’m reporting on real, sustained use in a working environment.
You’ll recognise these posts by the first-person language: “I’ve been using this for six weeks,” “the wobble at max height is noticeable after a few hours,” or “this replaced my previous setup.” If I say I tested it, I tested it.
Products I Research and Compare
For roundup posts and category guides — where I compare multiple options in a category — I take a research-first approach. This means I systematically analyse manufacturer specifications, cross-reference verified buyer reviews across multiple retailers, study professional and editorial reviews from established publications, and evaluate warranty terms, return policies, and long-term reliability data.
I don’t pretend to have every keyboard, desk, or cable management kit sitting on my desk simultaneously. What I do bring is a genuine understanding of what matters in a home office setup (because I work in one every day) and a rigorous process for separating marketing noise from real-world performance.
Where a specific product in a roundup happens to be one I also use personally, I’ll say so directly in the post. The default assumption for roundup content is research-based unless stated otherwise.
Every post clearly states the basis for the recommendations. For instance, if a product earned “Editor’s Choice,” the criteria are explained in the post.
Our Research Process
Regardless of content type, every product featured on this site goes through the same evaluation framework:
1. Specification Analysis — We start with the technical specifications and compare them against the actual use case. A standing desk rated for 70kg doesn’t belong in a “best for dual monitors” roundup if a typical dual-arm setup weighs 15kg before you add anything else to the desk.
2. Verified Review Cross-Referencing — We read verified buyer reviews across Amazon, manufacturer sites, and specialist forums. We specifically look for failure patterns, recurring complaints, and long-term durability reports — not just five-star summaries.
3. Editorial and Professional Sources — Where available, we reference hands-on reviews from established publications and specialist reviewers to validate or challenge our own findings.
4. Value Assessment — We evaluate whether a product delivers at its price point. A $400 keyboard that performs marginally better than a $120 alternative will be flagged as such.
5. Real-World Context — Every recommendation is filtered through the lens of someone who actually works from a home office. We don’t recommend products for theoretical use cases — we recommend what makes sense for people sitting at a desk eight or more hours a day, five days a week.
What We Don’t Do
We don’t accept paid placements. No company can pay to appear in our roundups or earn a higher ranking. Our recommendations are based on merit.
We don’t publish content we can’t stand behind. If a product category doesn’t have good options at reasonable prices, we’ll say so rather than fill a listicle with mediocre picks.
We don’t fabricate experience. If a review is research-based, we don’t pretend it’s hands-on. If we haven’t personally used a product, we won’t write as though we have.
